Location: Illinois

Type: Homeownership Developments
Use: Residential Rental and For-Sale
Cost: $6.8 million
Status: Completed 2008.

This innovative mix of for-sale and rental housing in one of Chicago’s most affluent suburbs was designed to provide Highland Park police officers, teachers and other moderate-income professionals and their families with access to well-built, attractive housing within their financial reach. The development’s 14 two and three-bedroom townhomes were priced affordably and sold to households earning 120% or less of the area’s median income, with several reserved for those earning 80% or less. The development’s transit-oriented location, use of geothermal heating/cooling, wind turbine, permeable pavers, an energy-efficient building envelope, EnergyStar appliances and non-toxic, renewable building materials earned Hyacinth Place LEED Gold certification.
