This attractive, century-old, 46-unit blond brick courtyard building in Chicago’s Washington Park community is emblematic of much of the neighborhood’s housing – stately and eminently worthy of preservation, but in much need of a facelift. NSP funds for Ironwood – the largest multi-unit building in Chicago to utilize NSP funding for revitalization -- supported the transformation of a foreclosed and shop-worn architectural gem into a welcoming mixture of spacious and affordable two, three and four-bedroom apartments. Other amenities include a family friendly community room and adjoining playlot, along with extensive renovation of the grounds, creating a visual and civic asset that buttresses revitalization efforts throughout the surrounding community.
