The LiveEvanston initiative is utilizing NSP2 funds to help stabilize two Evanston neighborhoods struggling with foreclosure and abandonment. As Evanston's exclusive NSP development partner, Brinshore -- which is responsible for acquisition, development, construction and property management for 100 formerly foreclosed homes in these communities -- is working collaboratively with Northwestern University, Evanston Hospital, the City of Evanston and other local employers to provide fully refurbished, energy-efficient, quality housing for their workers as well as families in the larger community. The response has been gratifying, with the first home sold in early January 2012 to a family of four who are transitioning from Evanston renters to proud homeowners.
