Mahalia Place

Location: Chicago

Type: New Construction
Use: Rental Housing
Cost: $35 million
Status: Completed 2006.

Named for famed gospel singer Mahalia Jackson, who lived in the surrounding Bronzeville community, the 18 buildings in Mahalia Place sit on nine parcels within the larger Legends South Planned Community. The development includes 110 rental units serving mixed-income households, with building architecture showcasing a variety of styles, from traditional to contemporary. The larger design vision – as with all of the developments that make up Legends South – is intended to integrate Mahalia Place and each of the project’s distinct developments together into a seamless neighborhood.
