Bluff Apartments, Fort Madison Iowa: Bringing eco-friendly, affordable living to green economy workers

Fort Madison sits on the western bulge of the mighty Mississippi river, in the far southeast corner of the state of Iowa. What had been one of dozens of sleepy river towns has now become a locus for the green economy, with the local Siemens plant ramping up production of wind turbines since it opened four years ago to three shifts a day.

Brinshore’s Bluff Apartments project has kept pace with the need for quality, affordable housing for workers at nearby companies, with the construction of five new buildings that house forty apartments designed to be energy-efficient, appealing and affordable. Amenities include a private community clubhouse — with a computer area, a fully equipped fitness center, a large room for parties and adjoining kitchen – as well as landscaped nature trails, nearby shopping, and a hospital two blocks away.

The project was built with energy efficiency and environmental sustainability in mind – echoing the vision of the green economy that’s helped expand the need for quality housing for local workers’ families.
