Hopkins Place

Location: Wisconsin

Type: Preservation: Restoration & Rehab
Use: Senior Residential Rental, 56 Units
Cost: $6 million
Status: Complete 2009

This comprehensive redevelopment of Milwaukee’s 30-year-old McGovern Commons preserved each of the complex’s 56 units as low-income, independent senior housing apartments. Residents were provided with fully furnished temporary apartments during renovation, which averaged less than 30 days per unit, part of Brinshore’s commitment to preserving this vital housing while minimizing disruption for its residents. Extensive upgrades to individual apartments dovetailed with repair or replacement of all common area elements, from energy efficient windows and lighting fixtures to new mechanical systems and public laundry facilities, along with new features that include a resident library, fitness area, business center, security cameras and shared common space.
